‘The Attachment Centre’, located in the derelict site of Nocton Hall, relates to the exploration of child-parent dynamics in adoptions and aims to aid the bonding process by emphasizing the emotional compatibility between the two parties involved.
The concept strives to ease the adoption process and the psychological implications, by gradually introducing children to prospective parents, and by informing future parents about the difficulties that may occur. An environment where the compatibility between a child and adoptive parents is explored can reduce the rejection rate and the prevalence of attachments problems.
Users
The children - Age between 0-4 years old, constitute the centre of the project. Their developmental needs are to be translated into a considerate design that encourages at the same time attachments between them and the parents.
The adoptive parents - constitute the other major component in adoptions. A psychologically supportive environment that prepares the parents to overcome the challenges that emerge is to be integrated.
The staff - comprised of social workers, psychologists, supervisory personnel, kitchen and cleaning staff. They are to assure the proper functioning of the centre and assist both children and parents through the adoption process.
